Hello guys,
has anybody ever looked into integrating the Chevrolet Volt or the Nissan Leaf into Vera? I couldn’t find anything in this forum around that.

Chance may be very slim on the amount of Owners of either car on this forum.
I happen to be leasing a Volt. It’s up in August and probably won’t get another - still unsure though.
What kind of integration were you thinking about? Curious.

Curious to know your experience with the volt.
I am thinking of getting one latest August as well. In terms of integration take a look at this site and then watch the short video please with the options of their app… Once you have watched the video and read the long webpage read my text below.
Think now in terms of integration about the options of charging based on your power grid and your prices. Then think in terms of integrating with your calendar and do a nice remote start to be ready to go when you have to leave the car especially in the winter. Also the whole message warning and email stuff about not forgetting to charge, etc.
There are many use cases you could integrate the Volt with your house and Vera. They will all use the OnStar API and according to OnStar they have 6 million subscribers of Volt with OnStar. GM even offers their own website not having to rely on OnStar and I think they have their own API if needed.
Thoughts?

Curious to know your experience with the volt.
I called my colleague who has a Volt for over 2 years and he is extremely happy. I went over a couple of things with him like milage, fuel vs electricity, etc. With that said he lives in California where the weather is always nice and my next step is to consult with owners in areas where they have cold winters as we are dealing with Batteries here which might or might not get affected.
I will have had my Volt for two years this coming August.
I’m by FAR a “greenie” (you should see my other vehicles - even I cringe a little) but more of a tech-geek. With that and the additional GM and Government-bases incentives at the time, it was really cheap for me to try out for a few years.
I live in SE Michigan so I see my share of cold weather and icy roads.
A few thoughts - poorly written as I’m in a hurry:
Our local power provider (DTE) offered an essentially free installation of a level 2 charging station and separate meter. This gives me highly reduced rates on the evenings and weekends.
The vehicle’s battery performance does go down drastically in the winter. I get 32-40 miles in warm (not hot) weather and 22-28 in cold. This is due to both battery performance and also energy spent on cabin temperature, etc.
It handles great in the snow due to it being a small car and weighing ~4000lbs !
It’s a great commuter as I’ve worked out a charging station at my office. I’ve only filled it up (8 gallon tank) 4-5 times. However, it is on the small side. If I didn’t get such a good lease deal, I highly doubt it’d be worth the ~$40,000 sticker - for me anyway.
Great feedback and thank you. Colorado has icy cold winters. In regards to lease they offer right now $372 with $0 down for 39 months for a car with a value of $38.100. That’s from the Ford website.
I know this is an old thread, but it seemed like a good place to ask this. Is anyone else out there still interested in Nissan Leaf integration? I’ve been working on some Lua code, and have working control/querying of my Leaf from the Vera. It’s really, really preliminary right now (a .lua file that I can manually run from the command line), but I’m curious as to whether it’s worth packaging it up nicely for others to use.
If I owned a Volt, only Vera integration I’d be interested in was a circuit to disconnect the power to it’s charger when the smoke detector went off, automatically opening the garage door, and something to push it out into the street… ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Somebody just posted a new topic asking for interest in integration for a Leaf.
As a Leaf owner and new Vera owner, I’m definitely interested in hearing more! I’m slowly trying to learn and understand what Lua code can do for me, so please feel free to share.
Heck, I’m still trying to figure out what my Leaf can do for me. =P
