changes to the mios.com servers to address the downtime

We’re very sorry for the recent server outages. This was unacceptable, and we know it caused problems for a lot of users who were unable to remotely access their systems.

The problems began a few weeks ago when we started getting unusual floods of activity on the servers that was overloading them. We decided to address this by installing new, more powerful servers, and upgrading our infrastructure to provide full redundancy so there is no single point of failure. We’ve been setting up a system where, for every server, there is a backup server in a separate data center, so that if there’s an outage in one data center, customers won’t notice because all the Vera’s will automatically switch to the backup data center. Unfortunately, we’ve made some mistakes along the way. One of the processes that seemed to work fine in our testing became overloaded this past weekend, and then when everything switched to the backup, it overloaded the backup as well, bringing everything down.
We fixed the problem and this week we’ll be adding more servers to increase our capacity.

We’re very sorry for the problems this has caused and appreciate your patience while we sorted through this. Everything should be back up now, and, we’re going to be turning on the new servers this week in such a way that users should not experience any interruption of service. With the increased capacity we’re hopeful that we have a more scalable solution and won’t have these problems again.

Thank you for the update!

great that you are beefing up the system and thanks for the information

Thanks for the update- sounds like you’ll be working OT on this ambitious project.
Best of luck!

FWIW- even major multi-million Data Centers go offline sometimes (for 6-8 hrs or more) as has recently occurred at the Dallas area Colo4 Data Center.
Here’s the rather contentious thread about it at Web Hosting Talk forum:

Can happen to everyone, But mcv is working hard to solve the problems that is the only thing that matters!
