cant get basic insteon functions to work

okay, heres my set up, I have the Vera Lite and the 2413U insteon modem. I installed the insteon interface and tried adding the just one insteon device I have. (Every other device I have is Zwave) the Insteon device is a basic plug in on/off module (3pin). When adding this device I think it shows up as _GenericIO device. insteon commands are not working when trying to communicate with device (turn on/Off). so thats my problem
fisrt take note, that the On/Off Insteon plug in module was originally set up and linked with a Smarlinc controller (I think 2414N) and worked fine when controller by that device, then I bought the Vera and got rid of the smartlinc controller. I then tried to use the 2414U controller with my Vera because I read the manual wrong and thought that device would work for adding the insteon communication to the Vera Lite. So i Re-Read manual and discover I actually need the 2413U, so I order that and reset up the insteon on the Vera. now when adding the On/Off controller with proper PLM installed It shows up as the _GenericIO device(Which I renamed at that point to bedroom lamp) and communication times out on it. when looking at the devices configuration, under the advanced tab I noticed that the “altid” has the insteon address of the 2414U (the second device i tried setting up). I tried to manually change this number to the proper insteon address but it then reverted back, GenericIO device name with wrong address again(2414U address)?
SO I guess my question is, do I need to or can I factory reset the Plug in module in hopes of it properly communicating with the 2413U and my Vera Lite? or are there any other suggestions I can try? Alsteon for one device seems a little much for me at this point. Do I ditch the insteon devices all together, I can still return the 2413U, as I have only had it a week now, and If I can properly get this device working, I would like to go down the Alsteon road someday in hope of using the much cheaper motion sensors availible. Im at a crossroads and need some help ??? ???
Regards
Ben

If I had to guess (and yes this is only a guess), I’d say that the GenericIO device actually IS the 2414U that you had originally connected to the VeraLite as this is what it tends to call anything it can communicate with, but can’t identify. I would simply delete this device.

How did you go about adding the plug in module? I personally don’t care for the script that MCV made for adding Insteon devices as it often doesn’t recognize them. I tend to just simply pair the device with my modem and refresh the Vera desktop (or at least that’s how I used to do it before switching to Altsteon).

P.S. The reason why it is reverting back to the address f the 2414U is because Vera seems to require all of the various parameters to agree (device file, capabilities, etc.) and I think it also has to have communication with the address in order to accept your changes.
