can't detect GE 12719 Smart Switch

I’m trying to set up my VeraLite system for the first time today. After a couple hours of fiddling, I finally got it to recognize one device (an Aeon Appliance Switch).

But I still can’t get it to detect the GE 12719 Smart Switch (which I now realize is the same as “Jasco”, though you really have to read the fine print to discover this). I have it right next to the VeraLite, plugged into a powered outlet. I put the VeraLite in include mode (I’ve tried this both using the hardware switch on the unit, and using the dashboard), then press the button on the Smart Switch. I’ve tried both a quick tap and a long press. Nothing. No matter what I do, the VeraLite just blinks at me for 60 seconds and then gives up. The dashboard’s only suggestion is to do it all again ? which I’ve done now, many times, to no avail.

I’ve tried googling the problem, but haven’t turned up anything useful. What’s the next step? Is there a more comprehensive trouble-shooting guide somewhere for when “try again” just doesn’t do it?

Do you hear a click or does the lamp turn on when you push the button on the 12719 appliance module? If not, your 12719 appliance module may be bad.

However, it is not uncommon for a Z-Wave device to need excluding, before it can be included. Try excluding the appliance module with Vera first, then include it.

I agree. Plug something into the zwave controlled outlet (easiest thing is a light) and manually push the switch on the device to see if the connected lamp etc comes on. If the device is what I think it is, the button on it is notoriously hard to push correctly to get it to engage. Push it towards the long edge of the button rather than downward seems to help. Leave the lamp connected while you do the include so when you press the switch on the device and the light doesn’t come on you know to try again.
