Can't add devices to vera2

I upgraded from vera1 to 2 and everything went ok. I bought a new lamp module and want to add it. I put my Vera in include mode by tapping the zwave button and wait for the blink. Once it blinks I tap my on button my module but vera never sees it. I tried the exclude mode on Vera and it seemed to react when I clicked the module button but include never works.

Looking around in the forums it seems like some people have had to reset their network and re add all their devices. I hope this is not the case.

Any thoughts?

The first thing to check is if your controller is Primary.
Goto Z-Wave device in the toolbox on the dashboard.

Role:? If it’s not PRI:YES there is no known easy fix. YET.

If it is Primary, try to add via full power inclusion to see if you get “Failed to go into learn mode”

JOD.

Mine says -
Role Suc SIS:YES PRI:NO
Does that mean Vera is not primary? But I have not trouble adding modules to the network.

@akashk
I’m sorry to say it’s not the primary controller.

Do you have many devices to where you could start from scratch? If you search the forum here you will find numerous others who have or had the same issue. I dont know of any way to make it right for you.

Maybe someone else has posted a solution.?

JOD.

When you say “full power inclusion” do you add the device when vera is plugged in? That is what I have been doing for this module.

@gsg5, in your first post you wrote that you “tapped the zwave button” you know this isn’t full power inclusion?

I used the instructions here http://docs.mios.com/doc.php?language=1&manual=1&platform=1&page=full_power_inclusion (which dont really match my vera2 but close enough for me to determine what to do)

This is the message that I get at the top

[glow=red,2,300]addd new devices now…
Failed to go into learn mode. Retrying…Add new devices now… Failed to go into learn mode. Retrying…Add new devices now… Failed to go into [/glow]

I’ve learned that when I get that message to go restart Vera and then go watch TV for an hour or two. If it starts doing that, I can’t include or exclude anything on my network and if I try to restart and include/exclude right away, it just does it again. I’ve found that most of Vera’s weird little quarks can be solved with time, that is time after a restart.

Do you leave it unplugged for a while? I restarted mine but only left in unplugged for a few seconds.

Yeah, I try to count to 10 in my head before plugging back in. I do this when I restart anything usually but I’m not sure it’s necessary. I think the real thing that’s going on (and this is TOTALLY a guess) is after a restart Vera starts to poll everything and asses the network, I’m not sure how long this takes but I know if I’m staring at the screen waiting for the UI to come back up and try again right away, it fails again every time. However if I grab a soda and watch TV for a little while Vera seems to be a bit more cooperative.

No luck. I cant get my vera to go in to learn mode. I have read some other posts on here and it looks like one guy had success by excluding everything in his network and then re-adding it. Even though I dont have a lot of devices I would hate to have to do that.

good luck, this is a MAJOR issue with Vera 1 and Vera2 recently, My Vera1 did this SOMEHOW, MCV can’t tell me how, and after 1 week with my new Vera2, same thing. So I have to AGAIN, REMOVE and RESTART adding in all my 50+ devices. There goes another wasted weekend…

I called up micasa verde and opened a support case.

Me either. I’ve had a case open, took a while for someone to look at it, finally had to send an email direct.

  1. Sent in a ticket, which went unacknowledged for a long time.
  2. After a direct email wondering why my ticket still wasn’t acted on. Was initially told, nothing was wrong with it. (Then why can’t I add devices???)
  3. 2nd try, a couple of weeks later, was told maybe there is something wrong, relating to a device you have added.

It’s been nearly a week – not a word about it since, not a follow up. Are they actively working on the problem, or not?

I’ll give it to the end of the year, maybe to the middle of January at the latest. I was going to pull the plug on Vera after I got back from vacation, but they finally acknowledged my ticket. So one more shot then maybe I jump ship. I just need something that works! Preferably without running another PC 24 hours a day, but if I have to, I guess I will. I first alerted them to it in October.

Maybe it will be fine if I delete everything from network and start over fresh (until the next issue comes up) – but if I do that and the problem extends deeper, then I have a BRICK. That’s the gamble.

I do not have many devices, so I guess I could start all over. So I have to exclude every single device I have and restart vera? Anyone who has success could post steps involved? Thx.

Here is what I got from vera support which is not what I wanted to hear.

You can do it yourself from the Dashboard. Navigate to Z-Wave Device (the main top panel - Toolbox), then Advanced and click “Reset Z-Wave Network”, then reset the z-wave devices by putting Vera in exclude mode (press and hold the z-wave button for about 4 sec and when releasing it, you should see the z-wave light on front of the unit blinking fast). Then include them back in the system.
