I read the FAQ found here:
hxxp://wiki.mios.com/index.php/FAQ#Are_you_sure_this_is_really_secure.3F_Can_some_hacker_spy_on_me_with_my_web_cam_or_control_my_house.3F
And I want to know if I can avoid having to use vera’s servers. I want to use nothing but my own internet connection. I can secure it myself and don’t want to have to rely on someone else’s servers being online for me to access my home.
So do you HAVE to go through vera’s servers or can I use the hardware and just connect to it from the internet the way I would any other server??
You can disable the tunnel that feeds cp.mios.com. Search the forum for “remove_ra”.
This is only part of the answer. Vera phones home at boot time, which is how MCV ensures you can set up a new Vera using a web browser on a different machine on the same LAN. Preventing this is not something that the forum has developed a recipe for.
Is there any type of similar hardware that does not do this I wonder?
I can understand getting a network setup properly can be a daunting task and this is just easier on the general consumer, but is something I would like to avoid. I would prefer to do my own configs.
