My old Vera 1 did a great job of acting as a Wireless access point, but I can’t seem to get the same thing to happen with Vera 3.
I have the Vera 3 assigned a static IP on my dlink router, and Vera is not set up as a DHCP server.
I have chosen WEP, WPA2 etc, but when my computers ask me to input the network key, it always says it’s wrong, even though I have carefully entered the key.
I’ve had no problems connecting to Vera3’s wifi (I use WPA2-PSK) but if you don’t have Vera’s WAN port connected then if I understand things correctly it can’t route to the internet at present.
I’m wondering if it’s this unit, as now even if I choose to have the wi-fi radio on, it doesn’t light up on the panel, and I can’t see it any longer as a wireless network.
I can connect to my vera 3 wireless (via my home wireless unit). I can not see it when I scan via my camera or any other device. Anyone have any ideas? Camera connects when it’s wired.
I think there may some confusion with the term access point. What GadgetGuy was saying is that he has a router at home already issuing DHCP IP addresses on one network. He’d like to use a cable and plug in the Vera3 to this same router, turn off DHCP on the Vera3, and then basically have the Vera3 act as a wifi access point that is on the same network. This would be ideal if you don’t have a router with a wifi connection, unlikely, but want to keep the router’s advanced settings. More likely though is my situation where I run ethernet to various rooms in the house and would like to plug in wifi access points at key points to maximize the signal throughout the entire house and back yard. I have the Vera3 centralized for ZWave proximity but would love for that to be another wifi access point that connects devices to my current network instead of an entirely different one.
I guess until they add in this feature we can use it as a guest wifi network since it’ll be somewhat cut off from the rest of the network. I do hope they add this feature though soon before I buy more real access points!
