Can only add one device at a time???

Not sure why, but I took the plunge and attempted to update my Vera Lite firmware today to the latest. EVERY time this turns into a fiasco. I waited the 15 minutes, device was unresponsive (blue light was blinking) so I unplugged and plugged in again. It wouldn’t boot. Blue light just kept blinking and blinking. So I attempted a reset…multiple times. Finally got it to boot back up, did a restore, but lost all of my devices. Then I did a factory reset and decided to just start over.

Now I’m going around trying to add them all in again, but it is only allowing me to add one device at a time. I unplug the unit, press the battery button, wait until the orange light starts blinking, then take it to my device, hit the - button and then the button on the device and wait for the orange light to blink fast to unenroll it. I then press the + button, wait for the orange light to start blinking and then press the button on the device to re-enroll it. This is where the trouble comes. The orange light stops blinking, never does the fast blink, and just the blue light is on. I then plug the Vera back in, wait for it to boot back up, and the device is there and working. This is a HUGE PITA to do after every device. I’d prefer to be able to go around and enroll multiple devices on one trip like I used to be able to. Is this something that changed with the new firmware or is there something messed up with my device again? This is my second Vera unit since the first went haywire, also after an update, and of course was no longer under warranty, so I"m really hoping it is not the device.

You do know that you can just use the Ui to add devices right? This nould not involve carring around the vera and guess whats going on by watching flashing lights.

You also know that you can just run a restore to bring everything back vs. Starting over?

You do know that a lot of devices require them to be within 3 feet of the Vera to be included, right? I have a bunch of receptacles. Pulling them out of the wall and rewiring them to be within 3 feet of my Vera is not an option. Also, since all of my devices had already been paired I need to unpair them first before re-pairing them. You can’t unpair a device that isn’t even in the UI.

I did do a restore, multiple times, and all it restored is my scenes which are completely useless without the devices.

I’m slowly getting through adding each device individually, but it is a huge pain and taking far longer than it should having to plug the Vera back in after each add. One of these days I will learn my lesson about upgrading the firmware on this thing.

Most devices dont need to be 3 feet. You may have a troublesome drvice here or there but i never move the vera unless i run into that. Also you’ll notice no new vera has batteries to carry it around. That’s a thing of the past.

A restore needs to be down with a check box to redtore the zwave network also.

But he also knows that there are lots of devices that don’t have to be that close. He also knows about long ethernet cables…

Yes, you can exclude any device, regardless of whether it is in the UI or not. You don't state which Vera of UI version you are using. I assume you are using UI7.
  1. Start the include process/wizard and select to include a generic Z-Wave device.
  2. Click Next
  3. Click Next AGAIN (not previous)
  4. Click Retry and now you are in Exclude Mode.
  5. Exclude device per it’s instructions.

It's a bit too late now, but did you select the checkbox to restore the Z-Wave network while restoring? If you don't, it restores Vera's files and scenes but it does not restore the Z-Wave chip/dongle where the Z-Wave devices are recorded.
I'm slowly getting through adding each device individually, but it is a huge pain and taking far longer than it should having to plug the Vera back in after each add. One of these days I will learn my lesson about upgrading the firmware on this thing.
You don't need to pug the Vera back in after each add. As you have already proven. the devices are being added and do show up when plugged in. Skip the plugging back in step and simply restart the exclude/include process for the next device, if you are not using the full power include method from the GUI.
