Can I trigger the Smoke Sensor's alarm when motion is detected?

I have several Fibaro Smoke Sensors, and I planned to use them all as sirens when the motion sensor is tripped. I have searched and read a lot but can’t find out how to trigger the Smoke Sensors alarms (without smoke). Any ideas? Do I have to buy a dedicated siren? ???

Pretty sure the reason you can’t find how to is that you can’t. Yes a new siren will be required.

Would you really want to do that in the first place, I can imagine the smokes going off in the middle of the night because a motion sensor tripped falsely. No thanks…!

Many options out there to do what you want … I’ve opted for one with various siren options and decibel ranges. Just makes sense so you’re not jumping out of bed thinking it’s a fire.

Everywhere has different rules, but where I’m at its a safety hazard and illegal to do this. Smoke detectors even have a certian sound that is required to identify it as a fire vs. say a bugler alarm.

Now if you have wired smokes there is a way to do this (not that I would or recommend it) but not with z-wave smokes.

Good points! The fire alarms should be left alone, or I will just undermine the importance of them, especially for the children. Better of with a silent alarm or a dedicated siren.

Let me extend the original question/answer with a different idea: can I use a siren to emit a small sound when my house mode changes? I really would love to have some audible feedback when I’m leaving home and chance my mode to “away”. I can use my Sonos speaker but so far I have just one in my bedroom, which is not too close to the exit door.

If a siren can be accessed programaticaly to emit a sound - even when it is not an alarm - I guess it goes up my shopping list

I see your problem, but I also see your solution… You need more Sonos speakers. LOL

If you have smoke detectors in your house that are all connected together using a 3-wire system White, Black, and Red Wires
The power is on the White and Black (110V) … But you can inject a 9V (Simple Radio Battery) on White and Red to trip the connected alarm.

Aotec has a z-wave siren that you can load MP3’s into an trigger from a scene. It is not 100% straight forward, but if you search for doorbell + siren in the forms you will find info on how to configure the Aotec siren to do what you want.

Thanks shallowearth! I guess the Aotec siren goes up my shopping list

I have just installed a Smoke Detector / Wireless Siren - Popp (POPE004001).

In case of an alarm (e.g. burglary) the acoustic signal will be different from the signal in case of fire.
I just have to figure out how to make an easy alarm trigger. Shouldn’t bet that hard I guess?
And an off trigger?

Have anyone gotten the alarm to sound diffrent from the fire alarm ?

and if so, want to share how to ?
