do you find the CA 600 switches to be a little warm to touch ? is that normal ?
how do you guys squeez all the cables in gang boxes ?
I had to bend all the cables to fit them … I guess this is code violation …? do guys run in to similar problems…
Z-Wave devices consume a small amount of power at all times, even when the switch is turned off, to run the Z-Wave radio and logic chip. This usually generates a little heat that could be noticeable, but it is rarely more than a small few degrees (2-3C) above ambient room temperature. More than that could indicate a problem.
Getting the cables to fit can be a problem sometimes, especially in multi-gang boxes… There are gang boxes available with varying depths. If the fit is too tight, due to a shallow box, it is necessary to replace the box with a deeper one.
I have no idea what your area is or what your local electrical codes are. However, I doubt that bending the wires is a code violation. I’ve yet to see any switch that didn’t have bent wires. If, however, your box is so tight that you have to screw down the switch and crush the wires, rather than lightly pushing the switch into place, that’s too tight and you need to fix it.
Dimmers also have a MAX # of dimmers per box limit.
That is because they generate heat while being used … and they need the surrounding area to help cool … If you put to many dimmers in the same box … they could generate to much heat and become a electrical fire hazard.
