CA5100 associate to CA600 help

I cant figure out how to get a CA5100 to control a CA600. I read three good posts but the were outdated. Can someone state the steps on easy to follow explaination? I would like to do it without Vera in the middle.

@kkl
I had read this and did the following from that thread:

Briefly, after including the CA5100 in Vera, go to its settings.
-Select the Device Options tab
-Under Associations, enter a Group ID. I used 1. I have no idea if it makes a difference.
-Select Add Group. Additional options will appear; select Set.
-From the list, choose your CA5100 and any other any devices you want it to control.
-Close the dialog box (X) and click Save.
-Wait a few…

This did not seem to work…however i did use group 2. I look in the actual device Settings for both the controler and controlee device and the do have some numbers like 2.154.10 and 2.155.11 i think this is the ..…does this right for the association?

Is the wiki page accurate? (The screenshots are for UI4.)

oTi@, that Wiki is for setting a scene, but he wants to setup an association.

imazman, I think it might need to be Group ID 1 to work. Also, where it says “From the list, choose your CA5100 and any other any devices”, mine does not have the CA5100 selected, and it is working.

Checking the CA600 and the CA5100 caused the CA5100 to show a red error in vera saying the Association could not be made.

However, I have it working…
I had the controller and the controlee device set in group 2 and I had each device associated with each other. So, I deleted both groups on each device which deleted all associations and have a new clean slate. At which time this is the only thing I did:

  1. For the controller device (CA5100) I went into it’s configuration panel and under “Device Options”, I added a Group 1 (not two, 1)
  2. I then clicked the Set button (only shows up after on creates a group)
  3. I checked the box for the controlee device (CA600)
  4. Save

I did NOT have to check the controller (CA5100) when I checked the CA600.
So either the fact that I was using group 2 and not 1, or the double linked association was causing it to not work.

Understood; however, @imazman was looking to ‘control a CA600’, without stating further details. Thus, using scenes on Vera may have sufficed.
(It may be a leap from reading in a device’s manual about associations, to using a scene in Vera. A scene is based on an automatic association of the device and Vera, masking the need for the user to deal with associations. Depending on the situation.)

As for the associations, I’d put high odds on group 1 to work as well, based on what we found for the dimmers/switches. In its simplest form, you’d only associate the controller with the dimmer/switch. Sounds like this is working now.

@oTi@,
Sorry I didn’t realize I did provide that piece of information. But yes, I was looking to do this without vera. In the event that vera fails for what ever reason, I don’t want 50% of the light switches in the house to not work…or if I sell the house, I don’t want to have to tell the buyers that they can’t let that little white box stop working or half the house light switches won’t turn on the light :wink:

And yes, to do have it working! Thank you all for all your continuous help!

No worries; thanks for the added detail!

Using direct associations has the disadvantage that Vera is ‘out-of-the-loop’, so the device state may not show correctly in Vera immediately.

At any rate, try your scenario though: shut Vera off and see how well things behave.
