Best supported Alarm Panel 2015

I actually have the earlier model being the 2DS, so yes both the EVL and the plugin has been very reliable.

I had some initial issues with the 2DS and the problem was specifically relating to the network size and a little sensitive to ths equipment it was connected too, however, later firmware addressed those issues.

I normally use the EVL web portal for arm/disarming and receive SMS alerts directly to my mobile phone but nothing I have very young children and a wife at home. There interface is very simple and on a mobile (cellphones) the layout is design for quick recognition and drill down. It also offers other functions such as camera and HVAC, but that is hardware dependant.

I do have scenes setup and notifications established on the Vera, but as I live in another part of the world, there are not received as fast as those receive directly. The scenes a work fine and there are no issues with the DSC app, it is just habits that I use the EVL web app.

The reuse of the alarm which is the key for integration, I use the alarm sensor as triggers for othe events which is the return on investment and reduces overall costs of implementing HA.

But, this is not limited to DSC, it was just that is what I have.

Cool thanks. One last question. Does your wife use the Vera web interface? Or what does she use? I now you said Cell phone, but wasnt’ sure which app/website she was using.

Oh and what is 2DS?

Thanks again.

That is three questions! Lol

Very rarely will Se use the Vera UI directly. She does not like it.

She uses her iPhones and she likes Homewave. The children (2, 4 and 5) also have Homewave as it is highly customisable for their specific rooms.

The 2DS was the earlier model of the EVL3, it has the same capabilities just older version

This was just a quick setup of Homewave Alarm reporting

And the direct Eyez-on portal view

Looks good. Thanks. I’ve really got to make more use of my Vera. But like the “plumber with a leaky tap”, I’m a programmer with a crappy website and lousy home automation. LOL.

By the way, why are you monitoring the Hall Closet? Is that where you keep the gold? LOL. Just kidding.

Haven’t you watched Harry Potter

That is where the animal lives and its food, when we open it and go in, the light is switch on and off after x minutes

Oh makes sense. Cause it’s not like the kids will turn the lights off!

Actually the kids are quite good at that, but the wife… Well that is another scenario

I too have my alarm hook to way more doors then you need for an alarm purpose, but this is for auto lighting purposes.

My walk in pantry, bathrooms (works fans and light control) and laundry rooms have door sensors just for home automation purposes.

Small rooms that normally have closed doors a 1.50 wired door sensor is hidden and when door opened light comes on. 5min or when the door closes the light goes off.

Bathroom, if door is closed and light on for more then 3 min turns on bathroom fan. When door opened and light off, 5 min later bathroom fan goes off.

Any small closest that doors are normally closed lights also work good this way. If no doors or doors always opened then use motion.

I’ll give you a brief overview of how I use my Vista 20p panel (in house when I bought) and Vera for security & alerting…

Windows = wireless to Alarm
Doors = wired to Alarm & Zwave door sensors (will convert to use only Alarm wired)
Motion = Zwave in every room and outdoor entry points + 1 Alarm motion in main area (might add more Alarm motions to replace Zwave)
Vera connects to Honeywell Vista 20p using EVL-3

Security Modes : built into Vera using PLEG

  • control is from occupancy detection (phone ping & router detection) and manually using Authomation HD interface to Vera
  • other entry points like Door keypads also trigger Security modes

Scenes (lighting, etc) : built into Vera using PLEG

  • some Zwave door & motion sensors trigger lighting scenes… this may also be replaced by existing Alarm sensors

Eventually (maybe soon) I will convert all my door sensors to use the Alarm sensors and remove the Zwave. Not for reliability reasons but since they are simply redundant right now.
Also, I may look into getting more Honeywell motions to replace the Zwaves OR getting newer Zwaves that also include temp, humidity, etc (more likely)

Both are very good example that the brand is not as important and the function they perform…

Integration and Aaron and integlikewhoa provide very good use cases for the ROI.

I personally have minimal z-wave sensors, they in my opinion just haven’t not proven themselves yet, but they do not offer multifunctional cannot be dismissed.

Hey Aaron. How does the “router detection” work? Is that built into PLEG?

Man it’s too bad the house was built when I got it. I can see where having CHEAP wired sensors on every door would have been useful. Oh well. Wireless it is.

The code runs on the router. Search for router Occupancy on the forums

My house was built 55 years before I installed the alarm panel. Took me half a day.

EDIT: and a few years ago alarm installers only installed wired alarms and in pre existing houses everyday.

Oh ok. Like Tomato (or whatever it is). Thanks

DDWRT or tomato are software to transform your basic to one with alot more options. One of those options is to run custom scripts or commands.

In the forums here there is that information on what code to run.
