Best Home Alarm System linked to the Vera 3

Hello All

New to this form… A lot of great info… Looking for some opinions… We are purchasing a new home this month and I am in need of a new alarm system. Currently have a simmon3 with 4 Foscam open port cameras. After some research I am going to buy a Vera 3 and start a home automation system… I started looking at the 2gig system but too many problems seen in forums and looking to keep the monthly bills down… I like doing the work to save money… like the ip cameras with an open port and 1 app…cheaper then paying the monthly fee. My question is I am wiling to either go wired or wireless in the alarm system. What is the general vote for when it comes to home alarm system linked to a vera 3… I wold like to have a couple touchscreen controllers thru the house…

Thanks for your help
Jim

Welcome and Happy New Year. This question has been asked numerous times. If you do a little research and digging you will find your answer. But to give you a hint, have a look at the DSC PowerSeries 1832 or 1864 panels.

I have continued my research and found I might be changing my route… I have learned that… All keypads with the Power series need to be hard wired…Due to the size and location I would like to place multiple keypads… This could end up being a pain in the rear./… If you were to purchase a complete wireless alarm system that would be a perfect match to a vera 3 what one would it be…

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction

Ademco makes wireless keypads for their systems, i have never used them so im not sure how well they work but all of the wireless stuff i have used works great. I have a vista 15p panel with the ad2usb interface and it works well with the vera plugin, and with @hugheaves recent code you can use ademco sensors that don’t even need to be enrolled in the alarm system which is great because the battery life and price of a ademco wireless door contact are outstanding.

Are you sure you need so many keypads? I hardly ever use mine since I arm/disarm either automatically, with a keyfob or with an app on a phone/tablet.

If you wanted wireless control, then you use @garrettwp’s excellent app to do it via an android tablet since he has built this control in.

Several Other Options to consider:

Happy New Year.

Yes it is! It has really been a capability gap between their new and old range of products.
I just wish they made their boards firmware upgradable…
I would make a lot of people very happy but I suppose, it keeps their turnover happening.
However, not available to EU or AU as yet… And, I will be hopefully moving in to a new house very soon and I would love this capability. Like always, us in Oz will just have to wait and pay the as @futzle calls it pay the Oz tax.

Happy New Year to you too!

I’m not, too bothered about the wireless pads, but it would be nice to have the proximity key feature I guess!

I replaced my 1864 and my wireless interface a few months back and it would have been nice if 4.6 and the new along with the two way radio, if it was available :frowning:
