Because it’s Wi-Fi rather than Z-Wave, you have an extended range for placing outliers in your automation network, especially if you can install another Wi-Fi access point nearby. Cheaper than buying a second Vera and bridging it.
Most of the Z-Wave appliance switches where I live don’t report instant status when the device is turned on/off via the hard button, and those that do only can via a little-known hack. This plugin does, if you install the UPnP Event Proxy too.
That said, there’s no way that I would give up my Real Security System with its Real PIR Sensors. The WeMo Motion sensor is very touchy and reports the slightest movement. My cats trigger it when I’m not home. I’m thinking of converting my WeMo Motion to some other kind of sensor by replacing the 3.5 mm plug. Come to mention it, universal Z-Wave sensors weren’t available in my country until quite recently, and WeMo is cheaper than them anyway.
