Basic scene setup with a light switch

Hi,

What I am trying to do is pretty basic (I think) but i can’t get it to work. Here is the setup.

My nightstand light is hooked up to a plug in dimmer. My wife’s is hooked into a separate plug in dimmer. I have a GE Dimmer switch as the light switch in the room. The plug this switch controls is on the opposite side of the room as the nightstands and has another light plugged into that outlet.

What i want is so when I turn on that outlet the nightstands go on with it (essentially turning all three lights on with the switch). Then, obviously i want it to turn off with the light switch as well.

I thought could create a scene that used the light switch as an event that turned all the lights on. That doesn’t seem to work consistently and lags turning them on, then they don’t go off with the switch either.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Am I trying to use the wrong switch? Do in need two scenes? Please help

From my understanding the GE switches due not report their status right away. They need to be polled to get the status. The delay you are seeing is when vera eventually polls the switch to get the status. Leviton has this feature, however this is their own format and works with other leviton devices (Lutron sued leviton and others for this feature). I think Vera now has this feature to get the status updates almost instantly from leviton switches. I could be wrong though. The only other option is to buy a scene cable switch (leviton) to do what you need.

I think you will continue to have those issues when executed from the switch, but If you click the scene from Vera the scene will work ok. I have a very similar setup, switch controls an outlet directly at my night stand, the wife has a Z-Wave controlled outlet for her nightstand and we have a floor lamp plugged into a plug in dimmer module.

After struggling to get consistant scene execution for over a year I ended up associating the switch to the outlet on group 1 and the switch to the plug in dimmer on group 2 and it works without any issues.

JOD.

Yeah - I gave up on trying to use the switch and instead bought a GE 45631 Z-Wave Wireless Lighting Group/Scene Controller. It works like a charm! Albeit it won’t work with scenes with Vera it DOES work with groups very very easily and does exactly what I need. I just ordered some more for other setups like this in the house.
