AV Control with VeraEdge

Has anyone opened up a support issue with Vera about this? It seems like this whole entire feature is missing from UI7 and there is no real ETA that I can find of when it will be put back in.

There is no reason to open a support ticket. What excactly are you trying to do? Use Vera as an AV remote or include devices in a scene?

Include devices in a scene. An example would be to power on the TV at a certain time, etc…

Hi,

There are several solutions in this forum for IR control. All require some extra hardware as there is no IR transmitter build in to the Vera. There are SQ Blaster, Kira IR or Harmony solutions to name some. Is that what you are looking for? If so search on those keywords and see if one of those fit your need.

I use a Harmony Hub to send IR commands around the house combined with a Kira IR receiver to trigger scenes on a Vera for lights etc.

Cheers Rene

Rene,

You are able to do this with a VeraEdge and UI7?

I do not see a place to add AV devices in the UI. Please point me in the right direction and I’ll add in both of my Global Cache iTach Flex devices.

Thanks!

Adam

Hi Adam,

You can search on iTach in this forum. I found this one form example http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,15155.0.html

Cheers rene.

Rene,

I think you are missing the point of my original post. UI7 does not have a place to add AV devices that I can see. I am looking to find out if and when it is going to get added back in.

I have a vera lite with UI5 and have had my iTach Flex devices working the whole time in there.

Am I the only one with a VeraEdge trying to get AV Control to work?! I can’t imagine that is possible!

Hi Adam,

Ok, with you now sorry for that ;D. On UI5 you can add an IR device when you select Add Devices and that is indeed missing from the UI7 options for adding a device. I see this post on the GC100 plug in for UI7. It seems you now must do somethings manually to add the IR transmitter part. Does this help http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,29685.msg211741.html#msg211741 ?

But you are right, the whole AV gear support and adding IR devices seems to be removed from UI7.

Marc, plans to put it back in?

Cheers Rene

I think your looking for something that don’t matter.

First how do you want to control the device? IR blaster? IP/internet?

When ever you get your controlling device you will need a plugin to control that device. Say if your using GC100 or a smart TV you need a plugin for either. When the plugin is installed it will add the device and now you can use that in scene or PLEG.

Manually adding a device is not needed. Even if you add a z-wave light switch you do not need to select the type of device to install from a drop down.

OK, can you help walk me through this scenario?

First and foremost - The Vera controller is running UI7 - I have a Global Cache iTach Flex, which I’d use the GC100 plugin with. I want to send a power on or power off command to a Sharp TV.

How would I go about creating this without adding the Sharp TV device, which references the GC100 plugin? I do not have the IR codes set for that device, which the AV control provides for me.

If your TV is IP controlled you could try the app in the app store.

Marc, Even IP tv’s won’t turn on, you can only turn Off.

Usually we are using outside programs to set this up. The OP has brought up a point in trying to keep it simple and use the internal options that were there.

The TV is old - at least old enough to not have IP control. That is why I have the Global Cache device. I control the directv box over IP and really miss my control of the TV!

Is there a generic app for TV’s with IP’s?
I’m guessing not, but thought I would ask.
We have an LG TV. We can control it from the Android app and we assign a static IP address to it. I didn’t see an LG TV app for Vera though

Any progress being made on this, or has all IR functionality been dropped from Vera?

sorry… I may be confused on what you are trying to do. With the itach, you can learn any IR command your TV supports, then tie those to scenes in vera. Maybe this will help:

you must not be running UI7…

I gave up on waiting for Vera to actually get something working for UI7 and solved it myself: http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,32420.0.html

That is great that you wrote a plugin to solve this problem of a feature that was taken away from UI7 that was in UI5. I don’t understand why Marc Shenker didn’t get this issue to the right people at Vera support to fix it properly so that a workaround plugin didn’t have to be written for this. It seemed pretty clear to me that this was a well documented issue. I do own a GC100 and plan to use it soon and I have UI7 on my veralite so I would be running into this same issue.

Just my 2 cents.

I have been putting pressure on those responsible and this is where we’re at; rather than reinventing the wheel, we?re working with several key industry leaders on integration with Vera. We?ll be making a formal announcement this summer with all the details.
