Associate device with room

I would first like to start by introducing myself and saying hello. I have a new vera 3 set up and it seems to be working nicely but I am unable to associate a device with a room. I have a freeze alarm, thermostat, wall switch, 2 lamp modules and a breaker for the hot tub. I would like to designate the devices to a room so that my dashboard makes a little more sense to me. I cant for the life of me see how I can specify that a switch should be associated with a specific room. Thanks for any help in advance and I look forward to using my new toys!

If you already have the rooms created, click on the wrench for the device you want to move. At the top right corner, there should be a drop down menu to select the room. Select your desired room and once done, close out of the device panel and click in the red save button at the top right corner if the dashboard.

I have tryed that (I thought it would be that easy) but it never changes to the desired room. It defaults to “no room” and the rooms I have created do show up in the drop down but when I select them nothing happens and there is no red “save” button in the upper right corner to select as well

???

What firmware are you running? The change won’t take effect until a save. So we need to figure out what is going on. What browser are you using?

I am running firmware 1.5.254

I use i.e. and have tryed this on my computor at work, laptop at home and computor at my cabin with the same results.

What browser are you using?
For some reason you can’t move a device to a room using I.E. I switched to Firefox and It works properly now. Safari and Chrome also work properly with vera3

I downloaded google chrome and you are right it works fine with that web browser.

I still dont see any association with the device and the room when you navigate to the “dashboard” tab. What exactly is the dashboard tab for? It does show the different rooms I created, but that is it so far…

I guess as I play with it more I will find these things out but I sure appreciate the help so far!

That dashboard tab are for devices and scenes you want quick access to. Use the pin icon on each device or scene to apply it to the dashboard.

Thank you for the help folks! I am very happy with mcv so far and look forward to setting up everything at our cabin. It looks as if I should have problems with that I will have resources to help me through any problems and that is most reassuring.

I seem to be having a similar problem with assigning devices to a room (new user with Vera Lite, 1.5.254 firmware).

I can assign the devices to the rooms well enough, and save it afterwards, but after a reboot (say to make a battery-powered trip to associate a new device), they are all back in “no room”.

I answered this in your other post, what browser are you using?

yes, I made this comment before writing my own post - it was firefox, but I’ll continue in the other post, if there’s anything to add. Thanks!

I know this post is a few months old but i am experiencing the same problem.

first off, I have done a unit repair and a reboot and tried firefox and chrome but i still unable to assign some devices to a room.
I can assign “automation” items to rooms but not some devices under the device tab.
I am sure i have done it previously and it seems to have happened since i added a new device recently (a remote-switch socket, which i can assign to any room)

I have just discovered that the devices i wish to assign to a room are “child” devices of another device.
It seems my “Horstman radiator” device #10 is the “parent” to a boiler control device that contains two separate relays, assigned as device#14 and device #15. I cant assign #14 or #15 to a room but if i assign the parent device #10 to a room the other two devices (#14 & #15) follow that room too.
Similarly, i have a temperature+humidity device #19 that is parent to temperature #20 and humidity #21 that can only be moved by assiging the parent device #19

I’d be pleased hear any reassurance of whether or not this is how the system works or if it is possible to separate the “child” devices and assign them to their own rooms.

thanks everyone

ps
firmware: version: 1.5.408

Child devices follow the parent device. There is no way to assign a separate room for the child devices.

thanks for that.
Guess i discovered it the long way :stuck_out_tongue:
good to know though
thanks

The [tt]embedded[/tt] flag on the child device’s [tt]Advanced[/tt] tab controls this (‘follow-the-parent’) behavior.

Not sure if it controls anything else though. Also, it may depend on the device whether you can actually clear the [tt]embedded[/tt] flag.
