Aspire RFWC5

I am brand new to home automation. I am using a Vera Lite controller. I have installed an Aspire RFWC5 5-scene controller and successfully paired with it. When I start to set up my scene and pick this scene controller, it says there are no buttons available. I’ve spent hours trying to resolve this. I found a place that would ask how many buttons are on the controller and was unsure whether the answer is 5 (the 5 scene buttons) or 6 to include the OFF button.

I would appreciate any and all explanation of how I can move forward to use the buttons on this controller to activate scenes.

I am also uncertain how the LEDs are controlled. I had hoped to be able to control the LEDs from Vera. I plan to have two scene controllers in different areas of the house with overlapping functions. If one scene controller changes something, I’d like the LEDs on the other to reflect the new state.

I don’t have this exact unit but I have both the Leviton and Enerwaves which gave me some pain as well. I have seen this very problem when the scene controller has not been completely configured.
I would recommend to delete and repair the controller a couple of times and make sure there is no error during the process. The vera should eventually be able to get the info on the manufacturer, the capabilities and the number of buttons. You should not have to manually enter the number of buttons. To check this, under advanced, variables, see what the “configured” variable shows. If it is anything but a 1, your unit has not completed its config and you need to repair.

I have this unit on my wall. You have to create a scene in Vera. My experience is you can add switches to the scene that are scene capable. You will have success with aspire switches.

Anyway, you need to set the rfwc5 as a rigger for this new scene. There will be a box asking what scene num, you enter the button number you want to activate the scene.

I think this process is loaded direct into the rfwc5. It seems to directly communicate with the switches in the scene. Vera is not really controlling the rfwc5, just programming it. Also, Vera has no control over the led’s, and gets no notice of a button “off”, but the switches in the scene do shut off.

I wanted to use this controller to control sonos play state and zones, but there is no direct way to do it. I was adding dummy switches to tie to the rfwc5, and have Vera watch them to intern control sonos. So far I have burned through 100$ I. Aspire switches, and a day debugging a blown gfci. We need a plugin to unlock the potential on this cooper controller!
