Anyone selling a 2412U or 2412S PLM?

I’d like to purchase a new or used Insteon/X10 PLM for use with Vera, but really don’t feel like lining SmartHome’s pockets with another $80.

So I’m checking first to see whether any of you former Insteon or X10 users might have a 2412U (USB) or 2412S (serial) modem you’d like to sell me cheap?

FYI, Home Depot just lowered its price on the 2412S serial (RS232) Insteon/X10 PLM modem. $64.99 delivered to your door. (I hear these are more reliable than then 2412U (USB) model, although that’s strictly anecdotal.) As MCV has pointed out, you’ll need a USB-to-serial cable in order to utilize this interface/modem with Vera.

Madas, for what it’s worth, I was poking around for information on the 2412 because I was considering using some Insteon products with my z-wave network, and came across this posting on Perceptive Automation’s user forum, dated June 2009…

UPDATE: I’ve encountered a couple of PLM freezes that require an unplug of the PLM to reset. At this time, I do not recommend migrating to the 2412U unless you don’t have a mission critical setup or will be at home to unplug the unit to reset it. Note I’ve only seen this problem twice after testing the 2412U for weeks, so it doesn’t happen often. But I consider this to be a serious issue since it requires a physical unplug of the PLM which may not be possible for second homes, etc. We are working with Smartlabs on resolving or a workaround for this issue.

Once it comes in i’ll do some quick testing, if I have problems it can go right back to Smarthome!

Just so you know, I went ahead and ordered a 2412S from Home Depot this morning, and will TRY it with Vera using my new generic USB-to-Serial cable (it’s a Prolific PL-2303 inside), hoping that Vera recognizes the cable and the 2412S connected to it.

Price: $59.99 + tax + $6.50 S/H

I can’t wait to re-use all my old X10 components (do not own any Insteon modules)! And I will keep everyone posted with the results under my “Using X10 Devices with Vera” thread.
