homemanageables uses the same box as Vera 2

Same box, same price… is it OEM-ed Vera?
Because if it isn’t there will be tons of confusion.

so then why are there some complaints that HM devices don’t fully work!

The motion sensor with the Homemanageables brand looks exactly like Hawking.

Everyone uses the same stuff manufactured in Asia and rebrands it. Some devices are made special, but for the most part a company works an exclusive deal with an electronics manufacturer for a period of time. I saw the HM box at CES and it was also being used by 4Home as well, so MCV is in good company.

The box will “contain” the Home Manageables software (or 4Home) and is just a hardware shell that isn’t exclusive to MCV.

MCV had a red box I remeber at CES

Take a look at what “There” (Nokia) will be releasing some time soon. Lot’s of great connectivity built in.

Very cool, 6GB…AND an SDHC slot… no shortage of storage.

Can you imagine price of this thing? I also strongly suspect mobile support will be tuned, if not locked, to Nokia phones.
The only thing I would be worry about is UI - whatever they build it will be better then UI3.

Is that the one that Bulogics made?

No, I think Bulogics is keeping their design to themselves. They have removable cards for diffent smart meter integration/monitoring for different regions using different technology, I guess. I really liked their offering, but I don’t think they want to sell direct to customers and are looking for a Utility company or Retail player to pick it up.

They really focused on energy monitoring and savings.

The “There” development is most interesting. Not necessarily because it will be affordable, and potentially not open source (though I think it would be fatal to release a solution tied to an individual phone manufacturer–I think if that were the goal, they would have stuck with Nokia branding).

More importantly, this gives me more confidence that Z-wave will survive, and perhaps even win the war of multiple home automation platforms. I do sometimes lose sleep over my dependence on MCV and an automation standard (neither of which might be able to survive in the long run, despite my hopes). With 3 thermostats, a bunch of lights and my pool pump all dependent on Z-wave, I’m not sure I could go back to the old days.

More hardware platforms, and especially a major corporation advocating Z-wave, should give us all more peace of mind that Z-wave will survive, and options in case MCV doesn’t sustain their progress (or moves in directions we’re not comfortable with).
