I am setting up a z-wave based alarm system and would like to provide some visual feedback, before I enter home, of the current alarm state (whether it’s armed or not).
I’m going to use a key fob to turn the alarm on/off, and as an example, it’d be useful to have some feedback that the alarm has indeed been turned off before entering home.
To provide this visual feedback, things that could work for me are a single LED on the doorbell, an LED ring around the doorbell or the door lock, a standalone plate with room for a lamp of some sort, etc…
Does anybody know of such a z-wave device? I haven’t come across any, unfortunately.
All I can think of, is making my own - with a relay switch, an LED, a plate, a transformer, a resistor… but it will never be as compact and power efficient as a single standalone device.
The EZMultiPli has a LED light that you can set to various colors. I use mine to see if the alarm is armed or not, and if not armed it gives me some info about the temp (since it has a temp sensor), you can also only turn it on if it senses motion but I only use inside the house. If you have an outlet undercover near your front door that might work, or if you have an outlet on the inside of the house that is visible from the door that might work as well.
Other obnoxious options You could put a multi-colored z-wave light in your porch light, and a motion sensor on your porch. If you alarm is armed and detects motion change the color of the bulb until motion stops then return to white.
More fancy option - I believe DoorBird just announced they opened their API set, which means that a plug in for Vera should be possible (I don’t think anyone is working on one yet though). I have no idea if you can control the LED on the doorbell though the API though (might not be programmable).
