I know that we typically don’t know, but I’ll throw this out anyway. Anyone know if there are any updates coming for Vera2. Having had the unit since about day one, I pretty disappointed at the lack of a decent interface. I really had hoped that it was going to evolve to more of a GUI with icons and pretty pictures. Ya i know pretty pictures - but having had Homeseer and even the old X-10 GUI interfaces, Vera seems like a step backwards. Nice tiles for rooms where icons could be placed with drag and drop would be nice. I really like the look of Fibaro. Sure I know that Vera is flexible with scripts and such, but after years of home automation products being a techie niche, I’m tired of not having simple intuitive interfaces in home automation. The UI-15 mockups that were available long before UI-15 showing some skins looked awesome, then we get a release of a UI that’s not as good as the UI-14. It seems like a step back. In addition it just seems that Vera appears to be stagnant or even dying on the vine. The main page of the website portrays what I want, however without some serious fiddling you could never achieve the simplicity that the website touts. I have glanced at systems sold by ADT and Alarm.com and the interfaces are much more geared toward the non tech, homeowner who just wants some automation features. My wife could even use them. I’m a techie, but I am on a mission to de-clutter my life. If it takes work and time to “make something convenient” then I am eliminating it from my life. I no longer want to waste my life on trying to make something work. It used to be fun to “tinker” but I suppose that my tolerance for making things work - that should work when purchased - is declining. The new NEST thermostat looks inviting as if I could just replace my thermostat with a device that actually learns, instead of having to spend hours to get zwave connected, create scenes and routines to save few dollars. The present state of vera does not seem that the work is worth the reward. Thoughts??
My personal opinion is that Vera should have a functional UI so that I can configure it, but I have no intention of going to my computer and launching a web browser to ‘run’ it or manage it. That is left up to my iphone/iPad/Android devices which dont use a clunky web browser. They have dedicated apps that I can configure to build a UI exactly as I wish… Square Connect has a nice UI or Autohomation for your android device.
