Calling all Vera 2 owners: I thought it would be interesting to see roughly what % of V2 owners have moved to UI5? I currently run UI4 on my home unit as I was reluctant to upgrade due to both the teething issues with UI5 and because I dislike aspects of the new scene builder schema. However with a number of existing & new z-wave devices not properly supported on UI4 I reckon I will soon have to migrate.
So if you have already upgraded to UI5 please vote option 2 if you feel UI5 is now an improvement (excluding whatever pain you may have encountered during the upgrade or with earlier UI5 releases) (1.5.408 the current beta)
Or if you upgraded to UI5 but don’t like it still because of layout, scene scripting, reliabilty or any other issues and would prefer if UI4 was still supported then vote option 3.
If you use Vera 2 then please vote so we can roughly see the percentages on UI4/5. Please don’t vote if you are a Vera Lite or Vera 3 user.
The z-wave version is the same on both UI’s (2.78 and 3.20), but we do not recommend to upgrade remotely. The UI upgrade should be done only when you are at the location so you can reboot your unit if it is needed.
Hi George. I decided against upgrading to UI5 with Vera2 and instead will upgrade to Vera3. Hope it works or we will be in contact. I will be installing in 1 1/2 weeks.
i just upgraded last night and found it surprisingly smooth. i had to re-add some of the (super basic) code in scenes and set up my vistacam again from scratch but, other than that, it’s been easy.
after all of the hullaballoo i was expecting it to be a nightmare but it wasn’t at all.
am thinking of upgrading to the vera 3 with the deal going on but am not sure if i really need it… the main thing that is slow on my network is my kwikset lock. i have already purchased 2 secure dimmers to help reinforce the “secure” part of my z-wave network but opening the door remotely is still pretty unreliable. sometimes it will take over 60 seconds - sometimes it doesn’t seem to work at all.
does anyone know if this would be improved with the vera 3 or if i should just add more secure devices to my network? the door is roughly 20 yards from my vera 2 with two other secure devices in between.
I just upgraded my units from Vera 2 UI4 to Vera 3 UI5.
UI5 seems to add a little more functionality to some of my devices (motion sensors and Minimote). Programming Panasonic cameras to work with Vera 3 is still problematic for me.
After upgrading from UI4 to UI5, none of my somewhat complicated scenes seem to have made it. Now I have to either downgrade back to UI4 or spend the time to implement all my scenes again. Terrible choices. Not happy.
I sat on UI4 as long as possible but when I purchased the Vera3 I went ahead and migrated the Vera2 to UI5 as well. While I prefer the look and feel of UI4, Ive grown comfortable with UI5.
After ~18 months of impeccable performance with V2/UI4 (1.1.1338), two weeks ago I finally decided to migrate my primary Vera to UI5 ( I have a second V2 already running UI5 for experimenting with).
Using the upgrade wizard I went to 1.5.346 and then to 1.5.408. I?m happy (and relieved) to report that all 15 devices and 20 scenes all migrated without any problems and it has been running perfectly since the upgrade.
While I still think it?s easier to figure out scene programming with UI4, UI5 does have some nice features and for me, is as stable as UI4.
