I am working on adding more zones to new windows & doors but have been trying to decide on either adding to my existing Ademco Vista Alarm or using ZWave Sensors instead.
Does anyone have any advice or experience with this scenario?
It has been quite awhile since I have added sensors to my Vista system but I should be able to find some info on the steps for adding zones be it wireless or wired although I may lean wireless for the windows for simplicity since other windows are wireless now.
If I understand this correctly once I decide on which Alarm integration module to use I will be able to use the alarm sensors with my ZWave system anyway, Am I correct?
Yes. cheaper to go with alarm sensors and doors. as zwave sensors will cost more.
as long as you have the plug in for vera for Ademco alarms you will be fine. DSC plugin is great and it pulls in all the zwave zones and motion sensors to the Vera.

Thanks that is very helpful.
I was thinking it maybe better to add zones to the Vista SE panel. I even found Outdoor Magnets for my 5 gates.
If you don’t mind me asking which Alarm Module did you choose, USB or Ethernet?

I would add sensors to your alarm panel, cheaper more reliable battery or non battery options. More sensor options with longer battery life. Less devices to overload your Vera (like me I’m maxing out my Lite) and if I ever scrap z-wave I still have a full alarm I can use or hook to the next new box.
As far as your adapter to connect to VERA. I think you only have one real option which is the AD2USB. What Model is your panel?

I am not a 100% on the exact model but my Panel is a Ademco Vista (10 or 20) SE originally purchased from ADT. It has the Wireless module & Alpha Keypads also.
I was under the impression I could go with either the AD2USB or Evisalink 3 alarm intergration modules? Still haven’t decided which one though.
P.S. I went thru files & found all instructions were for the Vista 10SE so fairly sure it is Vista 10SE

You seem correct, the EVL-3 plugin was only finished a few months back. For the longest it wasn’t working (including when I setup my panel)
If your panel is compatible with the new EVL-3 I think that might be your best bet. Running Ethernet cable for me is much easier then USB. Plus this Opens the door to controlling it form the network using a web browser or other options.
