Hi all,
I needed to turn on a pool solar system remotely.
The Vera 3 was just a bit to far to control it. When i moved the vera 3 closer it all worked fine.
I purchased a AEOTEC range extender and placed it where the vera 3 worked when placed there.
I added the range extender came up as a _Generic IO device with a on & off button which i thought was stange.
I can turn the range extender on & it says transmit was ok & seems to stay on but when i look later the off button is highlighted not on anymore. I can still poll the device & stress test, all seems ok
When I try and communicate whith the device controlling the pool solar, I can’t. It times out, I can’t poll it or communicate with it, it’s as if the range extender was not there (Same as when i don’t have the range extender)
If i take the vera 3 back to were the extenfder is it turns on the pool solar
The thing i may be doing wrong is. I learn the devices close to the vera 3 & then take them to there destination. This has worked for all devices within range of the Vera 3
Anyone got any ideas I wont have much hair left if this continues.
This is normal. The range extender appears to Vera to be a standard relay, like a switch or outlet, so it has an On and Off button. But the buttons are completely non-functional. Just ignore them.

There's nothing "wrong" with this method. However, this procedure involves relocating the Z-Wave device after it has been included and configured by Vera. This can change the neighbors and routing of the device. To resolve the "issue" Vera needs to recalculate neighbors and routes. This is accomplished by performing a Z-Wave network heal.
Try performing a heal and see if things start working for you.

As long as the Vera can reach it where it is going to be try using Full Power inclusion so you leave the Vrea and Aeon where they would normally be. When you include a device it calculates the route to the device. If you bring the Aeon close to the Vera or vice the route will be calculated accordingly and may not work well or even at all when they are put where they belong.
I generally use full Power inclusion so everything can stay where it will be when operating.
What you also might try (worked for me in several occasions) extend the antenna on the devices. Some devices have a small wire as an antenna, this is 1/4 lambda. Optimal would be 1 full lambda, but this has to be done quite precise.
You have to calculate which length for your frequency would be optimal, the formula you can easily find with google. than just solder the extra wire to the small antenna-wire, and leave it dangling outside it’s plastic compartment.
I did this with lots of fibaro relais in my basement and where I initially had to use other devices as a repeater , they now communicate directly to vera.
I think I posted something about extending the vera antenna on devices in the “extending antenna on vera 3” topic.
It does appear to extend the range by about 5 meters with nothing in its way.
This is short for me by about 7 meters.
I could move the vera but this would open up a whole new can of worms getting RS232 to work with a GC 100 -6
Initially I had heaps of help getting serial to work with a usbserial device from RexBeckett & Futzle
It sounds as if you need to move the range extender closer to your target. But maybe this is not possible?
I haven’t tested a range extender myself, but by your explanation, Vera seams to be better equipped radio-wise (antenna etc). Or the position between where your Vera was (when it was in contact with your target), and the range extender is big enough to have an impact on your results.
Yes , if the range extender was any closer to the target Vera wouldn’t see it.
If I cant get the GC 100-06 working I may have to investigate a external antenna on the Vera
