I have a Veraplus and am trying to install a Minimote. I clicked add devices and selected Minimote under Handheld. When prompted I pressed the join button on the remote, the blue light came on and noticed the message in the blue box change from “Add new devices now” to “Device detected” but when I go to my list of devices I do not see it. I’m pretty sure it’s paired because if I click the retry button the message in the blue box says “Remove devices” Am I doing something wrong? I’m kinda new to all this.
Make sure you have updated your Minimote to the latest firmware

Make sure you have not selected Dashboard on the left side menu bar. Make sure to select Devices.
Look for a device called minimote or possibly scene_controller or the likes. Unless during the inclusion you specified a room, it should be located in the ‘No room’ or ‘default room’ section.
Worst case, have Vera exclude it and then re-include it. Make sure you leave it next to Vera for at least 30 minutes before you start working with it so it can complete it’s configuration.
Rest assured, they do include and work. I have 4 on my system and love them.

I did install the latest firmware. I did select devices. I did remove it and add it again but it still does not show under Room, Type, or List.
When you include it, after Vera appears to have found the device, are you prompted to name the device and select a room for it? If not, it looks like the inclusion is not completing for some reason and you may have to contact support@getvera.com and have them remote in and take a look…
No, I’m never asked to name the device or select a room. When I push the join button on the remote the message in the blue box says “Device detected” then it changes to “Please wait” then goes back to saying “Add new devices now”.
OK, it’s not detecting your Minimote. I’m assuming you are using the Minimote entry rather than generic ZWave device on teh add device page?
Try the below.
Get within about a foot of your Vera if you can after you clock the Include button on Vera and the timer starts counting down from 60 seconds.
Hold the minimote as close to vera as you can and short press the bottom right Learn/join button on it.
On the minimote the blue LED should start blinking, then blinking fast and then go solid for about 2 seconds. This indicates it is included on the Minimote side. If instead the red LED goes on for 2 seconds it means inclusion failed.
Even after teh blue LED is solid for 2 seconds, keep holding the Minimote close to Vera until the 60 count down timer reaches zero. If no luck click the retry button on the Vera include page and repeat above. Vera will try to exclude the device in case it was partly included already and then you can try to include it again.
It may take a few tries but I’ve managed to add 4 this way. If it keeps on failing, as said, contact suport@getvara.com so they can remote in and check.

Success! Held the the remote a few inches from the the controller and short pressed the button. It configured perfectly. Thank you very much for your help. As I said I’m new to this so I have a lot to learn.
One question I have of you experienced users is:
Can the buttons on Minimote be used to control a dimmer switch or would any light switches be simply on/off.

As far as I can see, it can dim up and down but only if the light switch is ‘associated’ with it. This would mean that the minimote is directly controlling the light switch and it is not done via a scene.
Association is minimote to device directly.
Scenes are where the minimote sets a scene in Vera running which then controls devices.
