Aeon Micro Smart Energy Dimmer, 2nd Edition

Anyone know what’s different about the second addition?

The switch side of this device is spec’d for 18ga wire. No wire size in mentioned for line and load. Are all the connectors the same size?

Also, will this work with an existing mechanical dimmer? Or is dimming only zwave controlled? Thanks.

I don’t know what the lina and load are spec’d for, but I have 12ga wire in the line and load side without issue in mine.

I also believe that the 2nd edition is a bit smaller and has the option of energy reporting (and I could be wrong that the first edition didn’t have this). If you want this feature, make sure you order the one with the energy monitoring. there are 2 versions. On amazon, there is only about a $2-4 difference between the two (I know, cause I ordered the one without until I found out there was a version with it).

They mention 18ga because that is what they require for the low voltage switch side of the device.

The high voltage side of the device will connect to your household wires, which are spec’ed by the planned loads.

You should only be concerned about the max wattage rating of the device.

I got one recently and I could barely fit 16 AWG stranded speaker wire in there. PITA.

Also I don’t believe you can connect them to a dimmer switch. Only a toggle switch, which blows. I may be incorrect there though as the dimmer switch I replaced it with (and that it didn’t work with) was apparently shot (toggle worked but dimming didn’t) and had been for months and months. You’d think that’s the kind of thing your daughter would tell you. “Hey Dad. My light switch doesn’t work. Maybe you should check it out before there’s an electrical fire.” ::slight_smile:

You cannot use a dimmer switch(slide/rotary) to control the Aeon dimmer. You can only use On/Off switches, either bistable(flip/flop) or momentary. Using the bistable switches permits only On/Off operation manually. Dim levels must be set bu Z-Wave. Using a momentary switch, the dim level can be adjusted with manual switch operation.

/Rant Mode/ 16AGW speaker wire with clear insulation is an abomination that I find in use EVERYWHERE. Alarm sensors, doorbells, antennas, switches :o , cabinet lights, speakers… It’s pretty versatile stuff, but I hate it and most people don’t seem to know about polarity, or fuses! FUSES! /Rant Mode/

Hi all

I’m looking to get a few of these, but I’ve only had the Fibaro Dimmers before and I’m curious how well they compare against the Fibaro (if known)

Do you know the lowest wattage of light these can take! I have a 7watt LED I want to power/dim.

Any thoughts feedback on these would be appreciated.
