Aeon Labs Micro Switch Instant Status Setting

This may be a re-post but everyone kept saying to look in the forums to find out how to enable instant status for the Aeon Labs Micro Switches but I couldn’t find it so here is how I got it working.

I have tested this with both the Aeon Labs Micro Smart Energy Dimmer G2 and Aeon Labs Micro Switch G2. By enabling this setting I get instant status updates of the lights being on or off instead of having to wait 60 seconds.

Click on Device Options, Add configuration settings
Set the Variable to 80
1 byte dec
Desired Value to 1
Then Save

Here is a link to the manual which talks about variable 80

I purchased one each of the energy reporting microswitches, 1 regular, & 1 dimmer.

I installed the dimmer two weeks ago to my Vera 3 system, read everything I could find, but all of the references said add parameter 80 & set to 1

I assumed they meant add a new variable 80. I guessed 1 byte dec and it worked. Your instruction above is much clearer & is now searchable on the web for the next person who is scratching their head.

Also unclear were references to “momentary style dimmers” which would work with the dimming version of the microswitch. I didn’t know what a momentary style dimmer was. I guessed (wrongly) that it was a style of dimmer that you had to press & hold to dim up or down. This was not the case for the dimmer I bought, since even some simple dimmers have a side rocker next to the off/on paddle that you press & hold to dim up or down.

Later, I actually saw a switch at Home Depot that was labeled “momentary switch”. It was designed for a garbage disposal and it worked by only operating when one held a button. When one let go of the button, the switch was turned off. Maybe this is what they meant by “momentary switch”.

Anyway, without having an actual link to a specific style dimmer which would work, I gave up & quit buying dimmer switches.

Thanks,

Chris

Waking a dead thread…

I’m trying to set parameter 80 on my Aeon micro switch. I keep getting an error that the user configuration setting could not be set.

I tried excluding, re-including the switch then setting the parameter - not joy.

Any ideas?

Huh. No clue. I just tried this on my single microswitch and I get no errors. Shot in the dark, but, are you sure you’re entering all of the other input correctly?

Maybe there were different revisions of this device? Is yours older?

There certainly were in the case of Aeon’s inline switches. My older ones won’t take parameter 80 whereas the newer ones do. Perhaps something similar is going on with their in-wall switches.

I’ve concluded that I have a version of the micro switch that doesn’t support the parameter 80 feature.

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I would add some info here in case someone comes across it.

From what I understand, there are different versions of the switches and they support different things and also might use different variables. If you have one of these that variable 80 doesn’t work on, try variable 20.

Adding more data…

The G2 Micro Dimmer in-wall controllers appear to set up with Variable 80 set to a value of “2”. I had to change this to “1” to get the notification to function properly.
