Has anyone used the Aeon Labs DSC19103-ZWUS? It is an in the electrical box dimmer zwave module.
My question is do I have to use it with dimmer switches? How does it impact 3-way switches?
I have 3 switches (not dimmers) for my foyer lights. I would like to be able to dim them (just from zwave is fine). I’d rather not go through the expense of replacing 3 switches with zwave dimmers, but would like to have the lights go on when I disarm my alarm.
If I set a dim level via zwave, will that hold even when switching the lights from the switch?
When using this module, you must use either standard bistable(flip/flop) switches or momentary(push button) switches. You cannot use a standard dimmer(slider/rotary) to control the Aeon module.
With bistable switches manually flipping the switches allows only On/Off operation. They can be used with standard 3 or 4-way setups.
With momentary switches, holding the button will cause the Aeon dimmer to ramp up or down.

Turning on the bistable switches will return the light to the previous dim level. I think it might even be possible to program a preset dim level, but I might be confusing this setting with another product. Check the manual.

Sounds like exactly what I need. I would rarely change the dim level (the lights are too bright not dimmed so I just need them toned down). I need the ability to dim via zwave, it stay at dim level if turned on/off with the switches, and ability to turn on via zwave.
I can confirm that it works fine with just a standard single pole toggle switch (light switch). Flipping the switch off turns the light off. Flip on, and it returns to the last level you had set.
On, off, or any level brightness can be manipulated via z-wave.
I have this Aeon microswitch connected to a hallway light upstairs. I only use 2 levels of brightness, 20% at night, & 50% normal. I put a simple HSM motion detector in the hallway and using the plague (PLEG), when tripped, changes light level to 50% and back to 20% after 2 minutes. If the kids need the light on for more than 2 minutes, they just flip the switch off, then on to bypass the PLEG and the light will ramp to 80% for either 20 minutes, or the switch is flipped off again (whichever comes first).
They can be used in 3-way switching the manual states but I haven’t tried it.
You can buy this box for around $40. That definitely beats buying a primary z-wave dimmer and 2 secondary dimmers. It also saves having to rewire 3 switches. Now I will only have to rewire 1. I just need to look in the box and make sure there is room.
If I needed the ability to dim the lights from a switch, then I’d spend the money. For a foyer though, I don’t think it is worth it.
