I installed the Aeon Labs Door/Window sendor on my garage door and can’t seem to get any communication out of it. I just keeps showing “Waiting for wakeup to configure device” on the dashboard. There is only one wall that separates the sensor and the vera lite (Only about 10 physical feet separate the 2).
The main transmitter is attached to my garage wall while the other piece is attached directly to the edge of the garage door. Is the metal of the door along with the metal railing shielding the signal? If so, is there something that I can do to improve the signal?
I also have the GE 45603 Z-Wave Light & Appliance Module plugged in the ceiling of my garage. Would this not help to repeat the zwave commands?
Just looking for some help with my issue.
Thanks!!!

Does it have a battery, is it in the right spot and on?
Have you read the install directions to wake it up and configure it with Vera?
Have you put Vera within 3 feet of device?
Sounds like initial install has not been completed properly. Maybe have to remove and re include device again.
I have 15 of these sensors. In order to get Vera to recognize them you need to put the sensor in discoverable mode by tapping the tamper switch on the bottom of the unit rapidly three times (as per the Aeon Labs instructions) and then the red LED on the front of the unit will remain a steady red. You can then put your Vera in include mode and it will discover the sensor, add it to your z-wave network and you can then configure it. After you’re done including the sensor tap the tamper switch again rapidly three times to exit discoverable mode and set the sensor back to standby to preserve the battery life.
If you installed near the steel rail, it might interfere with the signal. While not as accurate the tilt sensor specifically made for garage doors would be a better bet.

Highly unlikely and it can be used with an external contact and be mounted feet from the actual door (not that its needed) which would mean even less interference then the tilt sensor mounted somewhere on the “metal” moving door.
Defiantly not as accurate/ slow to trigger, not any cheaper, he already has the Aeon and still has to mount to the tilt sensor to the “metal door”. Not seeing any big benefits jumping out on this one.
I did not see him mention the door was metal. Nice that they have a external contact. Tilt sensor is available for around $37 here, and my need is just to know if it is open for any long length of time so I can close it. I was considering automation of the door itself, but I have concerns over safety with kids next door.
