Aeon Labs Dimmer causing flicker

Title says it all. Even with dimmable Halogen Bulbs which should be supported (as per the website).

Any ideas? The type I have is the smart meter one with energy monitoring.

Originally they were hooked up and it seemed to not flicker. Then they just started flickering and now they seem to do it with any bulb.

I’ve got an Aeon Labs inline dimmer (AU model, 240 V) attached to a 28 W halogen lamp, and there’s no flickering.

Failure rate on these is non-zero (I have seen a couple of reports here on the forum), so maybe it’s happened to you too?

Hi mate thanks for the reply.

I Suppose they might have failed, however I have 2 and they both flicker. I am going to buy some standard bulbs on the way home this arvo and if those flicker then its the units.

Not sure exactly what type of bulbs you’re using Jedyh, however, if they have an inbuilt transformer (or are powered through one) it could be the cause of the flicker. Different quality transformers provide a different in-rush. If memory serves, those with a larger rush may be prone to flickering.

i have also had two of these fail. Ive been testing with a 40w incandescent - dimming works fine - then connected to 4x Brightgreen D900’s (plugged into a powerboard - so same circuit ) they immediately begin flickering and now reconnect to the same 40w incandescent bulb and it too now flickers…

Seems these are easily damaged!! Hope to get them replaced under warranty…
