Hi I have installed few in-wall dimmers and they work great !! However, is there a way to connect the in-wall dimmer with an external non-zwave dimmer.
The objective is control the downlights through vera (via the in-wall dimmer) as well as through the dimmer at the wall plug.
I know that one can connect an external switch with the in-wall dimmer. I am not sure if the same terminal can be used to connect an external dimmer ? Has anyone done this ?
What are the other options to have a control at the wall plate in addition to the vera control ?
@sharky22,
Welcome!
Those terminals only take a passive, mechanical switch. Hooking those to a traditional dimmer may kill the device.
You could look at Z-Wave transmitters, such as the Evolve LTM-5 (if available in your area); it would send on/off/dim signals to the Aeotec module. You’ll need a neutral.
(I haven’t tried that specific combination, but I use an LTM-5 with some other dimmers. And I have an Aeotec module in a ceiling box, controlled by a Leviton transmitter (but that one will only work if you have the Leviton programmer). And it’s North America only.)
HiSharky22,
I was also in this position - i am in the UK.
Only option with Zwave I found was extreamly expensive switches availabe - quick google will find them but honestly silly sill money.
Instead i followed @ParckerC’s instructions on how to install an RFX set up. This then alowed me to control RFLightwave kit (the stuff in B and Q ) through vera. It has some limitations but works great in my opinion and the kit looks great at resonable prices. Given I only needed this for 1 double dimmer switch in one room this was an ideal soloution for me. as I can use in scene etc just like it is a zwave device.
Hope this helps.
That LightWaveRF stuff sure looks nice… I’m still a bit disappointed by the lack of decent looking ZWave switches (in Europe, anyway).
Yeah and at the right price also! Hence why it was a good option for me
