I am seeking feedback from anyone who has converted their installation from Vera2 to Vera3.
Clean Vera3 install feedback is also welcome. However I am more interested in those who have converted from Vera2 to Vera3.
I have about 70 devices (full mix of sensors, appliance/switch modules/slave controllers) and 15 cameras on my Vera2 running UI5. I have since trimmed back to 5 cameras. Due to memory concerns I also limited the installed apps to:
• SmartPhone Web Interface
• Wake-on-LAN
• Virtual On/Off Switch
Feedback from this forum and my own experience suggests I may be exceeding the capabilities of the system. The system reports very little free memory and I believe performance is suffering as a result.
I am interested in your experience with the conversion process in total.
Would you also kindly consider commenting on the following specific questions?
-
Did you migrate your existing setup to the new Vera3 or start a new install from scratch?
-
If you migrated;
a. Did the migration work well?
b. If you had to start over, what would you do differently? Start from scratch?
-
Do you consider Vera3/UI5 to be “stable” or would you suggest holding off until the product matures a few more months?
-
How does the performance of Vera3 compare to Vera2?
-
Can you share how much memory is available between the old Vera2 and the new Vera3?
-
If you don’t have Vera2 information, can you share the memory state of your Vera3? For comparison, my Vera2 is:
total used free shared buffers
Mem: 30540 29504 1036 0 2364
Swap: 65528 112 65416
Total: 96068 29616 66452

Did you find anything “surprising” or exceptional with the Vera3 missing from Vera2? For example, did you discover any new usability of features with the Vera3?
-
Did you find any drawbacks with Vera3 compared to Vera2? For example, did you discover any features or desirable traits of the Vera2 that are missing from Vera3?
-
In your opinion, was the upgrade worth the financial and labor investment?
Thanks MUCH for your sharing your knowledge!
