ADT Security announces Pulse automation

ADT Security (popular home security provider in the US) has announced their new system called the Pulse, which combines their security system with Z-Wave home automation, including the wall-mounted touchscreen.

I wonder if it can co-exist with Vera on the same Z-Wave network…

Good to hear!

Also check out this offering from 2Gig technologies, they were showing it at the Z-Wave Alliance booth at CEDIA this year:

I think it was operating with Vera as a secondary controller, as the booth typically has a primary controller which was Bulogics, but I think that meant Vera was secondary too. I liked the alarm’s interface.

Interesting. 2GIG has a take over module that will take 8 hardwired zones and make them wireless. So theoretically, I could use the module and rip-out the Ademco 20P.

After looking at the installation guides for the TAKE-345 and CTRL2 Panels, this will definitely interface to an Ademco panel. Interestingly, the control panel can be set up as a secondary controller to vera! Now just need to find an online retailer that sells them.

Looks like 2gig has a z-wave t-stat as well that will run on both battery and HVAC power. Looks like it may be nicer then the WD and more cost effective then the Trane that I have.

Has anyone tried this stuff yet… I need an alarm system but have been waiting for something the truly works with z-wave and I need more t-stats.

Hate to be the guinea pig but…

I saw it in action at CEDIA in the Z-Wave booth and apparently they have sold some units. I was told that they were using direct door-to-door sales and have been successful with it, allowing college kids to make a pretty decent income. Looks like the company was started by people from the Alarm industry.

The control panel looked nice and performed well. I think the only limitations with it would be standard wireless sensor and Z-Wave limitations. You can use it with or without a monitoring sevice. When the alarm triggered, the horn sounded and it fired off all kinds of Z-Wave commands in the booth…shades up, lights on full bright, etc.

I think I might try one, even though the wife doesn’t think we need it…yet.

I know who the manufacture is and it’s cheaper than there’s on the manuf.'s site.
I wonder if it haas the Zwave usnap module included?

Apparently it was two guys from Honeywell from what I read… I have the opposite issue. Built a new house and never got the alarm done. We had a brake in down the street this week… (Moron broke into a cops house; big cop! and he caught him). So my wife is begging me to get something. Just not sure about wireless security. IE: Frequency jamming…

Just got off the phone with them… You can’t arm or disarm via z-wave, only thru their GSM service… Also you can’t execute Vera commands, just base devices as a secondary… Bummer, so close but so far!
T-stat is looking good however… Says you get 10mo on batteries with no juice from the HVAC… I am in on that for $95…
:-X

Control panel is usually wired, only sensors are wireless. If you jam the signal sensors stop communicate with the panel - you’re saying the system is so stupid it wouldn’t notice the registered sensors are all gone? I would expect it to raise a flag…

No, I did clarify when I called that it would throw a trouble alert if it can’t find its sensors. So that is ok and it was looking good until we got into detail on the z-wave stuff… I was hoping for much better interop…

ald, please let us know how the T-stat performs with Z-wave if you do end up buying. I have a trane waiting to be installed in my new home, but I will need another one, so might as well go with the one you listed.

@ald:

'Just got off the phone with them… ’ Is ‘them’ ADT or 2Gig ?

I am curious if the 2Gig system can be accessed/programmed remotely w/o the Alarm.com/GSM monthly fee.
The control panel looks nice.

It was the 2gig… the answer I got to your question is that it can only be accesses via the alarm service via gsm… He said that they will have an IP accesses solution eventually, but some time away… I would have been ok with that if I could have armed and disarmed zones via zwave somehow and used vera…

I am going to give the tstats a shot (Ordering tomorrow) will let you all know how well they work…

@ald, did you get the thermostat yet? I saw they were out-of-stock for a while, but now it’s back, and was considering getting this to replace my WDTC20, but was wondering if this implements the standard Thermostat class so Vera can talk to it.

Just got it last night! Hoping to install tonight, but will definitely be installed this weekend…
Quality looks as good as my Trane but less money and a touch screen to boot… Sent me for a bit of a loop when I first stared to play with it not realizing it was a touch screen… I will let you know my results as soon as I hook it up…

The 2gig ct30 t-stat works great… Linked up to vera and worked as expected… SQ works as well…
They could have better pairing instructions; as in they could actually give you some. But even a moron like me got it to link up after a few seconds of hitting buttons… (just don’t ask me how I did it). One of the advantages is that it will work on battery or HVAC power. I am leaving it on battery to see how long they last just for the fun of it. They are saying 10mo.

Advantages I see.

Good quality (my trane may still have a slight edge on the feel, but this is 1/3 less in cost)
Battery option (We will see how long they last but great option if you have an older home)
Touch screen
Locally Programmable if you want to do it on the stat rather then vera. (Not for me but)

I am ordering another tomorrow…

ald: that’s great news. Thanks for installing and posting so fast! Certainly a much better looking unit that the WD or Trane Tstats. Ordering 2 today.

Btw, I noticed a few folks talking about connecting their alarm system to Vera. Gives me shivers. This forum is filled with folks detailing their challenges with controlling a few lights. Putting an absolutely mission-critical piece of kit like an alarm on Vera doesn’t seem wise.

I happen to be in the market for an alarm system, and am going for LifeShield (http://lifeshield.com - used to be InGrid until the NutriSystem guy took it over). Wireless, with IP+GSM alerting. Very nice… Some systems should be separate.

.//A.

Question … are other 2gig sensors (door & smoke) z-wave too???

Only the t-stat is Z-Wave for now.
