My son just found his old 2nd gen iPod touch in the bottom of his drawer… seems to work fine, but of course all the apps out now aren’t going to run on v4.2 of the OS.
anything clever I can do with this?

It should run Safari OK, so it’s really easy to set it up with a web page that has buttons which fire off actions to Vera. In other words, a simple scene controller.
Actually, I have one lying about somewhere… must give it a go!
I thought Apple’s App Store should still allow you to install old versions of many well known apps, based on the OS version you have. (Assuming there is a v4.x version of that app)
I would have thought so… but there doesn’t seem to be any way to filter. I’ve only tried a few apps (like sonos), but all come back with the wrong/old version dialog.
reading this reminded me I also have an iPod Touch 2nd Gen… running iOS 4.2.1 that I understand is the latest available. So I dusted it off and did a bit of testing…
I cannot get Safari to launch AltUI: nothing happens after the “Waiting Initial Data” message. I suspect the browser cache is not large enough, but I cannot see how to expand it if at all possible.
HomeWave version 1.1 is what you can get from the Apple App Store… Pretty outdated.
The “VeraMobile” iOS app for UI7 will not install. I could install the legacy app (Vera Mobile App)UI5 but that’s useless for me.
The UI7 web interface does not work for me, but I am only able to try the remote access (anyway only the legacy.getvera.com portal works, not the newer one) so may be locally it works ?
All in all, while I am happily using my original iPad (say iPad gen 1 ?) running iOS 5.1.2 to access my Vera/openLuup/HomeWave, the iPod Touch 2nd Gen seems useless to me.
Interesting, found our old Iphone 3GS. I think it runs IOs 6, was just trying to figure out what to do with it. Will have to give HomeWaze a try.
