I just bought a new house and ended up getting a 2Gig/Alarm.com system installed for security. The company I went with could have done a DSC upgrade but it was cheaper to do the Alarm.com route. I’m pretty happy with the capabilities from a security perspective but I’m thinking of getting Vera for the home automation.
I could do it through alarm.com but there are a few issues. First is I’ve heard there is a response lag for commands through alarm.com and the system. That’s not a problem if you’re arming your house but if it takes 15 seconds to turn off my lights, that’s not going to work. The other issu e is my provider charges $65 to pair new devices to the system (monthly charges being another slight issue). I also like the Nest functionality better and am interested in integrating sprinkler and pool pump controls but this will all take time (hence the $65 trip charge being a problem).
So with that said, will Vera play nice with my existing security system or am I stuck with integrating into my existing z-wave network? How do competing Z-wave networks coexist and deal with interference? Is there anything else I need to be aware of?
