I notice in vera my 2GIG CT100 thermostat has a choice of ‘energy’ and ‘normal’ but don’t find these choices referenced in the manual. Can anyone tell me what they mean?

Some thermostats have an ‘energy saving’ setting, basically a hold of a pre-programmed set of a cool and heat setpoint, that you can activate quickly. You could, for instance, use it to put the thermostat in ‘energy’ mode when away from your home, and put it in ‘normal’ mode when you’re back home.
The thermostat representation on the dashboard is generic. The CT100 may not support these modes.
