Ive noticed my Lock status was wrong, so I investigated this thread. Took my door apart to check the cam and make sure all was OK and noticed that the little switch at the top that the cam depresses isn’t quite long enough, so when I lock the door, the cam, even in the right position turns every so slightly to the right enough where it doesnt hit the switch. So the door thinks its locked.
I may be able to mess with the switch but it seems that the cam and lever tolerances may not be that good, or maybe they have worn out in 6 months of use? Seems to me that it’s not a Vera issue, its Schlage and the quality of the “fit” of these parts. I’ve tried everything to make this line up, but when I turn the level to unlock, it throws it just every so slightly to the right and doesn’t depress the switch
On your GE Module, make sure firmware is v2.0a or v3.0a, these support the lock beaming
Once you install the module, try and HEAL NETWORK overnight and see if this helps
Mine says version 2.0. I just bought it last week. Is there a way to upgrade firmware or must I return it?
Ah. It is not even a GE product. It is a Jasco product and they just license the GE name. Or maybe it is a GE product and Jasco licenses it. I am not sure.
I just upgraded to .979 from .616 because I needed a brake from all the issues. This does seem like a much better firmware except this issue of not logging the code users name. Why would they make this worse then before? It was so simple to see the users door code name in notifications. I still have not figured out how to get a scene to log a users door code anywhere. It just logs the scenes name even though I have it set to Event type: A PIN code is entered. Which user code: AnyCode. Has anyone got this to work properly?
I also hate how confusing the the Luup events log is in the way it says Door lock opened and Door lock closed instead of Door lock locked and Door lock unlocked. Especially when opened means locked. That is just plain stupid for a device that is suppose to be for the general public. How many people would think that opened means the dead bolt is extended instead of thinking that the lock is unlocked.
FYI, for those of you where you have problems with Vera knowing the proper status of the Schlage deadbolt, it was due to the microswitch and deadbolt cam not lining up properly, even though I installed the door 100% correct.
How can you tell if you have this issue??
When the door is UNLOCKED, check the status of the door in Vera dashboard or under Z-Wave devices. Do you see the status show LOCKED? This was my issue.
When the door is UNLOCKED, close the door and hit the Schalge button and turn the deadbolt. If the deadbolt won’t turn, then the door thinks it’s locked. This is a feature I’ve never been able to enjoy due to this issue. I always had to enter my PIN to lock or unlock it! If you have either of these issues, this means your deadbolt CAM is not lining up properly with the MicroSwitch
I took my door apart again and noticed that the microswitch is mounted inside the plastic battery box that holds the 3 AA’s. It seemed to wiggle left and right a bit and by moving it to the right and wedging a small bit of cardboard held the battery box in place where the switch works properly now and lines up with the cam
Hope this is helpful for those of you that are having this issue with the microswitch and cam on the Schlage
Yes, I took some cardboard from a duracell AA battery case and folded that once and jammed it in there and its now working perfectly. I didnt see any other way to do this and really didnt want to try and mess with that switch…
Where did you purchase it? Can you return it to them? Everywhere online I have found this they are not reporting what version it is. Does anyone know who has it in stock in the latest revision? I need to get a couple of these to try to relay Vera’s signal from one building to another that is about 25 feet away. The RP200’s aren’t reaching reliably. I figure if I put one of these on the exterior of each building it will extend the signal a little better. My only other option for this particular install is to add another Vera in the other building, I don’t have a wired internet connection in the 2nd building however, I would need to connect the Vera to the wifi signal from building 1 (which is strong, using a 400mw antenna). Has anyone successfully acomplished this type of install? It would probably be cheaper for me to just add another Vera by the time I buy the two jasco modules and add two exterior electrical outlets to the two buildings.
I got it at Mogiz. They said they have no way of knowing the version number since it is inside the package. They did give me an RMA to return it, but not exchange it. I will call Radio Shacks.
homeserver, did you contact Schlage? When I sent tech support an email, they said they had not heard of this issue. They also said they have a policy where they will direct ship a replacement device if there is a problem with their lock. (might be worth looking into)
I didnt, Im more concerned about locks I sell to customers messing up, mine isn’t a big deal and I really don’t want to have to go thru the setup again. But, the cardboard DIDN’T solve it for long…The battery holder where the switch is just doesnt have a super tight fit to hold it in place…it keeps shifting over. And my CAM has about 1mm of play to either side.
Anyone else thats having this issue? Take the back cover off and check, you can hear a very minor click when the microswitch is depressed.
Radio Shack had a 2.0a so I bought it. I had no idea I could find something I wanted at a local Radio Shack. I never would have mail-ordered one to begin with.
Note: the 2.0a has a" Schlage iLink compatible" sticker on the front, and you can see the version number through the back of the plastic if you know where to look.
Vera’s Z-Wave dongle must have a built-in security class:
Go to Setup → Devices → Z-Wave Options, and look at the ‘Version’.
If the version is 2.40 your dongle does not have the security class implemented. Request a replacement dongle by sending us a support request at the micasaverde.com website (click ‘Support’), including your serial number, name, address and email.
I can go to Setup->Devices but there are no Z-wave options.
There is Setup->Devices->Z-Wave->More -Zwave Options. Is this what they mean?
Version says “Version 1.64 L:1”
Does this mean my Vera is not Schlage lock compatible?
The .64 part is your dongle version and it should work with the Schlage lock. The newest version is .78 though. Since the .78 still has some issues you will have to wait for the next recall of dongles to get what we all hope will be reliable. If they had just got firmware upgradable dongles from the start it would have cost a lot less in the long run.
I had a similar experience with the deadbolt. The status always showed unlocked and then after reading the posts on this forum, I took the lock apart and discovered that the microswitch would not disengage all of the way and thus the lock thought it was always open. I lubed the switch with a little WD-40 and was able to get it working properly. There seem to be a few quality issues with this lock.
The scary thing, in my case anyway, was that by just pressing the Schlage button on the top of the lock keypad, you could lock or unlock it without any code. I had not realized this and my door was pretty much open to anyone for four weeks.
Thank you to everyone posting. There is a lot of valuable information that helped me solve my problem.
